St. Kitts Music Festival

By Katherine Verano in St. Kitts

The annual St. Kitts Music Festival (SKMF) is easily the biggest on-island event of the summer season.  Established in 1996, the festival showcases different genres of music that attract broad based international participation and promote St. Kitts and Nevis as a major tourist destination. The St. Kitts Music Festival has earned the reputation of being the most diverse musical show in the Caribbean. Over the years performers include such celebrity artists as John Legend, Shaggy, Wyclef Jean, Bankie Banx, and Dionne Warwick. This year’s lineup included KC and the Sunshine Band, T-Pain, Ziggy Rankin, and Stephen Marley.

For 10 years, Front Stage has been one of the most important parts of the SKMF, showcasing local talent and culture. This year, due to lack of funds, the event was not scheduled to take place. In a gesture of support, Christophe Harbour donated EC$10,000 to the St. Kitts Music Festival Committee. Faron Lawrence, chairman of the St. Kitts Music Festival Committee said, “This donation has come in the nick of time. We do recognize that these are very challenging times globally, and so when Christophe Harbour is able to come forward with such a gift, that is indeed very special to us.”
