Perini Navi Andromeda la Dea Ranks Top Two at St. Barth’s Bucket

By Katherine Verano in St. Kitts

Racing in near-perfect conditions made this year’s St. Barth’s Bucket a smashing success. Three fun-filled days of sailing brought out the best in owners, captains, crews and guests. The Bucket is an invitational regatta open to yachts that are more than 100 feet in length. Each year The Bucket Association organizes the event, created primarily for camaraderie and the thrill of sailing these vessels in their full glory.

This year, 26-29 March, saw a total of 39 mega yachts in attendance.  At sunset on the third and final evening the results were in- Andromeda la Dea ranked number two in best performance overall. She also took first place in the final race, “Wrong Way Around”, and achieved best combined results in the Perini Navi category. J-Class Ranger ranked number one overall, and fellow Perini Navi P2 came in third.

Andromeda was captained by owner Buddy Darby, CEO of Kiawah Development Partners, and the developer behind Christophe Harbour - the burgeoning luxury real estate and mega-yacht marina project in St. Kitts.  Slated to open in 2011, many of the participants in the Bucket are anxiously awaiting the opening of Christophe Harbour as the next Caribbean destination in which mega-yachts can take safe harbor.

The magical elements of the Caribbean and jovial seamanship kept the celebration going far into the night. Tony Hambrook, Managing Director of Alloy Yacht, said it best, “This was the best regatta ever, anywhere!”
