St. Kitts and Nevis celebrates its national heroes

One of the most celebrated days on the calendar in St. Kitts and Nevis is National Heroes Day. Each year, the people of this island nation paradise honour their heroes on 16 September; some of the people who helped make this country what it is today.

A significant milestone, this day pays homage to the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of those who have made sterling contributions to the advancement of this country. In particular, it acknowledges those who have helped pave the way for the Federation's political independence, which was achieved on 19 September 1983, under the leadership of the country's first Prime Minister, and now National Hero, Dr The Right Excellent Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds,

Retail therapy: Marina Village retail slated to open early 2017

A shoreside village will take shape over the coming seasons, with a unique selection of boutique shops, cafes, hotels and residences nestled throughout.

As the iconic Customs House rises, construction on retail is also well underway in the marina village. This first phase flanks the Customs House and consists of seven small bays, which will house men and women’s boutiques, a home interiors and design center, specially-commissioned rum shop featuring high-quality, small batch spirits from around the region and more. These shops are expected to be ready to occupy by the end of 2016 and open in early 2017.

An icon rises: Marina Village construction well underway

The Marina at Christophe Harbour has been welcoming superyachts up to 76m to its state-of-the-art facilities since February 2015, and it is now well on its way to delivering the first shoreside components of the marina early next year. The 11,000-square foot Customs House, along with the adjacent luxury retail shops, will be the anchor amenities for the emerging marina village and ensure Christophe Harbour's position as "The New Gateway to the Caribbean" and the region's ultimate homeport.

Restaurant Week: a celebration of local flavours
