Caribelle Batik. Using the traditional Indonesian method of treating fabric with wax to resist dye, the artisans of Caribelle Batik have been creating their apparel and tapestries for more than 30 years. Visitors can watch the artists at work and learn the technique during hands-on demonstrations.
The Carib Indians, early inhabitants of St. Kitts, left stone carvings throughout the island, which contain symbols believed to have religious significance. Those found on Old Road are believed to be in their original location.

Filled with local history, Independence Square serves as town square for St. Kitts’ capital city, Basseterre. Built in 1790 for slave auctions and council meetings, this public square was officially named in 1983 to commemorate the independence of the island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis from Great Britain. Today, the square is alive with family outings and impromptu gatherings, and serves as a place to gather for parades and parties.
